A popular tourist attraction 30 minutes south of the coastal city Oamaru, the Moeraki Boulders are an interesting geographical phenomenon. The largest of these spheres, 2.2 metres (7.2 ft), are estimated to have taken 4-5 million years to form.
The boulders form in the cliffs facing the ocean. They are separated from the surrounding rocks and become exposed by erosion. The encasing of the boulders reminds me of a ball and socket joint, ie. your shoulder.This is Ulex. Attractive yellow flowers disguise its hearty thorns.And it is everywhere.
